I went on an amazing hike a few months back. Instead of an album or a post about it, I made a multimedia presentation combining the photos, GPS data, and captions from my hiking group. Thank you Lauren, Gary, and Maggie for your multimedia contributions.

Special thanks to Gary and Savannah for numerous points of advice, design critiques, and some good old fashioned “JUST SHIP IT ALREADY” energy. And a shoutout to CJ for opening up this thread some years back and inspiring me.

This was one I would have been hard-pressed to build without the help of generative AI models. The source code is on Github. If it helps you make something similar, please let me know!

I’m excited to keep exploring this concept. It’s landed well for helping people understand the hike, and I think it can be useful for all sorts of geo-spatial-temporal adventures. I wonder about including more data types like heart rate data, weather, temperature, and step counts but also about shared prompts, better media inputs, and making it available for more people to use.
